Sreedharante Onnam Thirumurivu

Malayalam family drama movie “Sreedharante Onnam Thirumurivu” (1987) directed by Sathyan Anthikad and starring Mammootty, Neena Kurup, Suresh Gopi, Sreenivasan among others.

Sreedharan (Mammootty) is a school passed, but garage owner, expert in car mechanics and repairing. His uncle’s daughter Aswathy (Neena Kurup) comes to stay with them in their house. Her parents are working in the US and have left her to school boarding and hostel since she was 10.

The girl is lonely, bitter, adamant, strong headed and defiant. That goes against the family values of Sreedharan comprising of his mother Sukumari (in another superb role by the thespian actress) and siblings and father Sankarady who is all the time involved in temple politics. The girl develops a strong hatred for obedience which baffles Sreedharan no end.

Sreenivasan is employed to cook chinese dishes for her in their house but he decamps with some jewellery. Things come to such a pass that the girl is forced to reveal her distress at being left alone by her parents and lack of love in her life. She narrates a past love story which ends in disaster.

Suresh Gopi plays the role of the lover in her life. Overall story and script is good, Mammootty essays a good role as is his reputation and other character actors — Mamukoya, Innocent, Sukumari, Sankaradi also do good roles. IMDB 4/10
